South Indian Classic Dance Performance
Melonlight Dance & Yoga will host a Bharata Natyam for New Audiences performance in Eureka Springs on March 5th, 2016 – 6:00 pm-7:30 pm.
This is a series which brings the divine art of Bharata Natyam (South Indian Classical Dance) to communities throughout the USA, and has been touring since 2008. Mr. Jaan R. Freeman, Artistic Director of New York’s Dakshina Palli, Inc and Bharata Natyam dancer will present this program. Mr. Freeman performs in the rare Bharata Natyam lineage of the late great South Indian Dancer T. Balasaraswati. Freeman a disciple of Nandini Ramani & Priyamvada Sankar, both senior disciples of Balasaraswati.
On Saturday March 6th, there will be a workshop; fundamentals of Bharata Natyam. This is a workshop for those who physical want to experience the art. All are welcome beginners, non-beginners, men, women, boys and girls as well as the average Joe.
This art brings together Hindu Philosophy, Ethics, Hindu Mythology, Carnatic Music (South Indian Music), poetry, rhythm and movement of the 18th century South India. Many of the interpretative dance items will draw from real life situations and emotions, which brings us into the current time.
The program will feature items of the repertoire with narration and interpretation and an interactive dialogue with the audience throughout the program.
